I should create a new section in my blog called "only in Cambridge"…
This week is the week before May Week, the end of term blow out at the University of Cambridge. Pretty frocks and glamorous dinner jackets will be worn, May Balls will be attended and enormous quantities of Pimms and champagne will be drunk. Before May Week gets started though, there's the small matter of the University of Cambridge May Bumps.
While researching the race times on the CUCBC website, I came across a list of the various penalties that have been issued to boat crews this year. The list is hilarious. Here are some of my favourite entries.
Fairly mundane, but fun-sounding:
Christs M1 Excessive Bank Party £15
Churchill M3 Foul and Abusive Language £20
I don't understand this one:
Emma W5 Dropped Bung £15
Does this mean that they started partying before they'd bumped?
Newnham W3 Early Celebration £40
Even Cambridge isn't safe from petty crime:
Boatman stealing Bumps Programme £2.50
My favourite penalties are in the sartorial crimes category:
Christs W2 Inappropriate headgear
Jesus M3 Bad hats 20p each
Pembroke W3 Offensive Leggings
