December 2013 update: I'm no longer working as a photographer

In 2009, I launched a company that makes business software for photographers, and now that company is so successful that I've regretfully had to put my photography business on hold indefinitely. You can find out more about this change on my blog.

If you're looking for a photographer, I'm still in touch with many amazing photographers and would be delighted to recommend them to you if you contact me.

Light Blue: Photo updated to version 1.5.1

Posted in Light Blue Software at 17:53 on 10/09/2009

blogImage1Light Blue: Photo, the business management software for photographers that I launched earlier this year, has been updated to version 1.5.1.

Light Blue Software and Apple have lots in common - both are run by people who have an overwhelming passion for what they do; both produce great bits of kit, and both have a dedicated following of happy fans. For Light Blue: Photo 1.5.1 (made for Mac and PC), we've taken a leaf out of Apple's book and, instead of cramming in loads of new features, have concentrated on making things better behind the scenes, fixing things we've been wanting to attend to for a while, and generally fine-tuning the whole program based on feedback from you, our users. Have a look at the full list of release notes to see everything that we've done.

Whether you tried out Light Blue: Photo back in the early days before we'd added all the great new stuff to it, are in the middle of a trial, or are one of the happy band who are already using Light Blue: Photo to help them work quicker, faster and more productively, we're sure that the new version will have something in it for you. Light Blue: Photo photography studio software updated to version 1.5

Posted in Light Blue Software at 15:35 on 30/07/2009

blogImage1It's been a busy couple of months for me. Not only is the wedding photography season in full swing, but I've been hard at work with Hamish at Light Blue Software to release our biggest update to date.

Light Blue: Photo is a flexible studio management system for professional photographers, and the new version is such a big update that we decided to skip straight from version 1.2 to 1.5. The list of new features starts off with:

A comprehensive purchase accounts and inventory system.

An elegant integrated email system, including templates and HTML newsletter functionality.

Support for publishing your shoots to Google Calendar as well as iCal, letting our Windows users join in with the calendar publishing fun.

The ability to import orders from ProSelect.

There's a whole host of other new features. You can find out more and download a free trial from the Light Blue Software website, where you can learn all about our photography studio software.

We're celebrating the launch of Light Blue: Photo 1.5 in our own special way. If you use the discount code 'PARTY' (without the quotes) when registering Light Blue: Photo in the next two weeks (i.e. it expires on 14 August) then you'll receive a 10% discount.

Light Blue Software discovers unannounced iPhone OS 3.0 feature

Posted in Light Blue Software at 13:33 on 19/06/2009

Apologies for the lack of pictures on here over the last couple of weeks, but now that the wedding season has kicked off and Light Blue: Photo has been getting so much great feedback from professional photographers, it's been hard to keep up with my blogging. I'll fix that really soon.

blogImage1Most of the photographers I know are iPhone owners and fans and - if you're anything like me - you've been dying to get your hands on the new iPhone OS 3.0 software. When I upgraded my iPhone on Wednesday night, I discovered a new feature that hasn't been mentioned on any of the tech news sites I read: phone numbers, email addresses and street addresses in the Notes field of an event in the Calendar app are now clickable links.

So, why am I excited about this? Light Blue: Photo v1.2 improved our iCal/iPhone sync feature, adding an instant auto-publish feature as well as publishing more information about shoots to iCal. In iPhone OS 3.0, all you need to do to call your clients, email them or look up their address in the Maps app is to go to the shoot in Calendar and click the appropriate link. It's about as cool as calendars can get. How cool you think it is depends on how much you like being able to keep on top of your schedule and contact your clients while out and about!

Light Blue: Photo given a glowing review by Photo Pro magazine

Posted in Light Blue Software at 10:48 on 09/06/2009

Light Blue: Photo, the studio management system for photographers that I created to run my photography business, gets a great review in the current issue of Photo Pro magazine. Light Blue: Photo's ease of use and functionality made sure that it received a 4.5 out of 5 review, which said that they were "very impressed with the attention to detail, the functionality, and pretty much everything else".

Light Blue: Photo v1.2 was released last week, adding internationalisation features, enhanced iCal and iPhone integration for Mac OS X Leopard users and a host of other new features.

You can find out more about Light Blue: Photo and download a 30-day trial version from the Light Blue Software website.

Light Blue: Photo, business software for professional photographers, updated to v1.2

Posted in Light Blue Software at 08:36 on 04/06/2009

This summer is turning into a busy one. Not only have I been doing my normal photography work in Cambridge and London but I've also been working on Light Blue: Photo v1.2.

Light Blue: Photo is business management software for professional photographers and runs on both Mac OS X and Windows. We launched version 1.0 in February and since then it's grown and evolved. Version 1.2 was released last night and includes several really exciting new features:

Localisation options, so our customers outside the UK can use their own currencies, paper sizes, date formats, etc.

Enhanced iCal support for Mac OS X Leopard. More information about your shoots are published and updates are published instantly to iCal (and your iPhone if you've synced that with your Mac).

Printable versions of quotes & receipts.

There's a whole host of other new features. To find out more about them, please check out url=http://www.lightbluesoftware.com/news]http://www.lightbluesoftware.com/news.

Light Blue: Photo 1.2 is now available for download.

If you've already registered your copy, you can upgrade for free; if not, download the full version for a (newly-extended) 30-day trial. If you like what you see, you can buy it from our website for the special introductory price of just £325, including VAT.
