December 2013 update: I'm no longer working as a photographer

In 2009, I launched a company that makes business software for photographers, and now that company is so successful that I've regretfully had to put my photography business on hold indefinitely. You can find out more about this change on my blog.

If you're looking for a photographer, I'm still in touch with many amazing photographers and would be delighted to recommend them to you if you contact me.

It seems like I'm being featured in the professional photography trade press an awful lot at the moment. The latest issue of Photo Pro magazine dropped through my letterbox this week and I'm featured in their "Break into professional photography" supplement, which is billed as providing "Essential expert advice on ways to maximise your business".

Hyperbole aside, my tip in the magazine is to get to know your fellow wedding photographers rather than shun your competitors. Most wedding photographers work from home by themselves, and many find that having a group of likeminded photographers to share the highs and lows with is invaluable.

Networking with other photographers can also be valuable from a business point of view. When a couple get in touch with me for a date that I'm already booked for, I'm always delighted to be able to recommend some of the best wedding photographers in the country rather than having to send the happy couple an email saying "sorry, I can't help you but good luck with the wedding!".

Up until now, I've only used my blog to share pictures and news but I think it's time to make a couple of suggestions for a change:

If you're a professional photographer, get out there and meet your fellow photographers. Don't treat them all as 'the competition'. <cheeky suggestion>Oh, and go and buy Light Blue: Photo, too.</cheeky suggestion>

If you're a bride or groom looking for a wedding photographer, don't assume that it's not worth getting in touch with me because I'll already be booked on a popular date. Chances are, I'll be able to put you in touch with one of the outstanding photographers who belongs to the same referral group that I do.
