Children's photographer Helen Bartlett and myself are going to be presenting seminars at the Calumet store in Glasgow in October.
Post-production for portrait and wedding photographers
On Thursday 8 October, I'll be presenting my post-production for portrait & wedding photographers seminar.
Digital capture has given photographers an enormous amount of creative control over their work, but this means that taking great pictures is only the first step towards delivering fantastic results.
I will be presenting a seminar that will teach you the post-production skills you need to finish your portrait & wedding photographs to a professional standard. The course will explore:
Practical techniques that will bring the best out of your images.
Building these skills into an efficient workflow that supports your photographic style and makes the most of your time.
The seminar includes:
A catch-up session to bring your Photoshop skills up to speed.
Realising the potential of RAW files.
Producing great black & whites from digital images.
Practical retouching techniques.
Using special effects to polish your images.
Taking control of your workflow.
Everyone attending the seminar will also receive a disc containing details of the techniques demonstrated, sample files and the Photoshop Actions used during the course.
The seminar will run from 10:00 to 17:00 and is priced at £85. You can book tickets from the Calumet site:

Photographing children with Helen Bartlett
On Wednesday 7 October, Helen will be presenting her seminar on photographing children.
Helen has spent the last five years establishing a thriving children's photography business that takes her all over the UK photographing children in their own environment. In this seminar she will share the secrets of her success and the philosophy behind her images which is so integral to her signature style.
Helen will guide you through the highs and lows of setting up your business and explain many of the key techniques she uses each and every day to ensure that each and every client has a stunning set of images.
You will learn:
How to develop your own style by thinking through your images and what you want to achieve rather that imitating the photographer down the road.
How to evaluate a location for the best shooting spots: be it a park, a beach or a basement flat.
How to work with light or lack or it, indoors and out
How to get the best from the children and achieve the all important family group shot
What to do when you hit meltdown (yes, we work with two year olds) and how to get the shoot up and running again
How to market your new found skills and attract new clients
Tickets are on sale now, priced at £75 inc VAT. You can book tickets from the Calumet site:
There's still a few tickets left for the post-production seminars I'm presenting in Manchester and Birmingham this week. You can get them from the Calumet website:
Tuesday 12 May 2009 - Calumet Manchester

We're half way through April, so I thought it was about time that I posted a reminder about the seminars I'm presenting in May.
I got so much great feedback from everyone who came to my wedding photography seminars at the end of 2008 and one of the strongest themes was that most people found the section dedicated to workflow the most useful part of the day. Everyone I asked said that they would be queueing around the block for a full day's training on workflow and post-production, so Calumet have invited me to present another set of seminars in May:
